About me

Hello and welcome.
I'm Max Novelli — officially, Massimiliano Novelli.

I spent the first 30 years of my life in a small town just outside Milan, Italy. At 30, I moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States. For my 50th birthday, I gave myself an unusual gift: I accepted a new job in Copenhagen, Denmark.

It was an unexpected decision — but one of the best I’ve ever made. I truly enjoy life in Copenhagen and deeply appreciate the Scandinavian lifestyle. Thank you Denmark for welcoming me and my family. It feels good to be back in Europe, surrounded by its diversity, rich history, and the ease of access to so many cultures and places.

I'm a software engineer, a data enthusiast, a yogi, a movement practitioner, a pacifist, and an environmentalist.
Most of my travels happen on foot, by bike, or via public transportation. I do not own a car.
I admire people who are respectful, constructive, and enlightened.
I love spending time with dear friends, I enjoy good food, traveling, and staying active.

Peace and respect for all.

Bio

I am a software engineer by training. A computer scientist, data architect, and data manager by experience. I hold a Laurea degree from Politecnico di Milano in Italy. I am specialized in research data.

I currently serve as a Senior Data Curation Scientist at the Copenhagen office of the European Spallation Source (ESS).

In this role, I am actively involved in the SciCat project (Scientific Data Catalog), contributing to software development, project management, branding, and outreach. I lead the data curation initiative to define a comprehensive metadata framework for all data acquired at ESS, aligned with the FAIR principles. I also collaborate with international partners to promote data sharing, curation, and quality, which are key factors in enhancing scientific output.

My current interests and passions include developing tools and visualizations to uncover new insights from experimental data and evaluate their integrity. I readily embrace emerging technologies ( including AI tools ) to advance data exploration and improve curation practices.
